Forgetting A Birthday

1981

I thought of it on Monday

And mentioned it to Scott.

It crossed my mind on Wednesday

We talked of it a lot.

And yet that day is just a blur

On how our time was spent.

All I know is just one thing-

The day just came and went!

How does it happen year after year?

You’d think we’d have a plan

To honor years past and ones to come

For such a wondrous man!

But, NO!- it doesn’t happen!

There’s nothing more to say

On how we manage to forget

Still one more brief birthday.

Your day is not the only one

We fail to celebrate.

The so called “special days” are just

To us another date.

So please allow us this one quirk.

Please know we care a lot.

And silently wish you a joyous birthday

(Whether we say so or not),
