1982
The crocodiles were crying tears
Just like I do at times.
The snakes were lounging in the sun
Reciting simple rhymes.
The butterflies were singing songs
Of happiness and cheer,
While on the shore the beaver burped
And grabbed another beer.
The fish (of course) were silent
As they swam and swam around,
And yet they snickered loudly
When one got dizzy and ran aground.
The frogs were hopping backwards,
Not really knowing why;
One turtle kissed another
And then began to sigh.
As I watched this strange behavior
It made me stop and think.
Animals are just like us
When they’ve had too much drink.
Some become quite jolly;
Some are introverts;
Some will laugh at anything
Until their stomach hurts.
For me- I’ll stick with chocolate milk;
perhaps some orange punch;
A simple glass of water
To accompany my lunch.
