The Lie

1986

She broke the vase.

He knew it.

He saw it hit the ground.

But when the time came to explain

She did not make a sound.

She knew he knew.

He knew she knew.

Oh, what was he to do?

Do you become part of the lie

By being silent, too?

You can turn your head

From knowing-

Pretend that you don’t see,

But obligation comes with knowledge;

It’s never truly free.

She broke the vase.

He saw it.

He did not turn away.

What part will you be- the lie or the truth-

If it happens to you someday???
